
"He’s earned his independence so that he can really decide which of the unions’ positions he really wants to embrace and which ones he doesn’t.”
So says Joe Williams, the executive director of Democrats for Education Reform. Because the National Education Association waited until the day after Barack Obama had the nomination sewn up to endorse him, he doesn't owe them much. We won't see an Obama administration as dedicated to teacher unions reporting their finances as the Bush Administration, but we're not likely to see the wholesale dismantling of accountability measures for schools either. Then again, the electoral map isn't looking so hot for Obama at this point.

That seems a bit over optimistic. The NEA will shower him with money and he will dance to their tune.
