Governor Jim Douglas has announced that he will veto the bill (S 373) requiring Entergy to put additional money into a decommissioning fund before allowing the company to reorganize and move Vermont Yankee into a new corporate entity. The bill was, perhaps, the most contentiously debated of the session.
The veto is the final act of this session. Speaker of the House, Gaye Symington is considering a run against Douglas and, the informed guess is that she did not want to risk the political damage of losing a high profile veto-override vote. Therefore, the House adjourned without making any provision for an override session.

Thank you, Governor Douglas, and to the legislators that would have sustained the veto should it have been necessary. The nameless should not be overlooked for if Speaker Symington knew she had the numbers to defeat the veto, she would have taken that victory on the campaign trail with her, no doubt.
Sincerely,
James Ehlers
