Missisquoi Valley Union High School has agreed to hire a $95,000 "school improvement officer" with a $30,000 budget to boost standardized test scores. This apparently satisfies Commissioner Cate, whose duty it is to help Missisquoi address its problems in failing to meet AYP (annual yearly progress) on its tests. It is conducting a nationwide search for an individual with proven experience in turning schools around. Missisquoi absolutely should conduct a nationwide search -- for a new superintendent and new principal.
