Peter Herman, president of the Vermont School Boards Association, wrote an op-ed piece in the Herald that was just too easy to respond to. He wrote, among other outlandish things: "Vermonters overwhelmingly support our public schools because they recognize a good deal when they see one."
Apparently Herman penned these words before the NECAP results came out showing that 70 percent of 11th graders can't do math. At $14,000 a student, "good deal" isn't exactly what comes to mind. I responded with a letter to the paper. But it wasn't fun. It was too easy.
