Speaker Gaye Symington said in November, "School boards are very adept at explaining their budgets to voters and I have tremendous faith in the ability of Vermont voters."
But Joel Cooke of the Vermont-NEA said yesterday, "It is not good government policy to confuse voters."
Apparently, Joel has convinced Speaker Symington that, yeah, voters really ARE stupid. Because this time she's quoted as saying, "Confusion is not cost containment."
Seems it was Speaker Symington who was confused back in November.

Proposed budget from my old high school district in Bennington, Mt. Anthony Union, is $6,800+ per student (including the middle school).
I am wondering if we gave $135,000 to a decent teacher and told them to buy all the books and materials they needed to teach 20 students, if they couldn't do a better job.
I know there are physical infrastructure needs, but where is this money going?
This is especially confounding when you hear the "sky is falling" horror stories of classrooms with 30+ students.
