This proposal for reforming health care got lots of attention in the media. The circus came to Montpelier and everyone had fun. Unfortunately, there is reality to think about and the cold truth is that H.304 would:
* Require legislators to vote for a 5% payroll tax and
$225 fee to be paid by every Vermonter under the age of 65. Which,
needless to say, will not happen.
* If passed, quickly bankrupt the state's hospitals since they will be put on a fixed budgets while the people who use them are given carte blanche to use them as much as they want. The question of what hospitals will do when they have, inevitably, exhausted their budgets is, unsurprisingly, not addressed.
As a stunt, this one gets high marks. As policy ... dead on arrival.
