A Splendid Idea

We hear an inspired proposal might be offered in the legislature today.  The basics are this:

* The current session would be adjourned early this year.  (One month earlier, anyway, than last year and if that's the best they can do, we'll take it.)

* By working harder and more efficiently (and not bugging out of Montpelier right after lunch on Friday), our electeds could get their work done by early May and save about a million dollars.

* This money would go to the LIHEAP program almost immediately which means that people struggling with the exorbitant cost of fuel oil would get help paying the bill ... right now.  Also, the people who receive LIHEAP assistance would get some advice from Efficiency Vermont on measures that would cut down on their consumption of fuel oil.

* Sometime before Memorial Day, we could all start breathing normally again, in the knowledge that the legislature has adjourned for the summer. 

What's not to like?
