Breaking News - Pollina Announces

Pollina1 At today's Vermont Progressive Party Convention, held In South Royalton,  party favorite Anthony Pollina announced his intention to run for the Governor's seat. Which party banner he'll be running under is less certain. Pollina said negotiations are underway with the Democrats however, there was not yet a decision about whether he'll run as a Dem/Prog or as a straight Democrat.  Understandably, the audience was uneasy about adding an additional party to their label. Before the issue could be raised by participants on the floor, Chris Pearson (Prog - Burlington) took to the podium and said that he understands some people may take issue with adding party labels and then went on to say, "I'm sorry, but we're not going to have that debate ... we need to do it [to win]. "

Pearson then went into an exasperated appeal for everybody to "open their wallets" to support the Progressives. I suppose "opening you wallet" is something we'll all have to get used to if the Progressives ever take control.

That's what you took away from the convention? Wow. You could have done that without spending 5 hours on a Saturday.

Did you catch the part about Art Wolff being called the "house economist". That was good.

Ha! You think I could spend five hours in a nest of Progs and come out with one post? Wait and see. The biggest problem I have right now is choosing what to write about first. And yes, I heard a bunch of comments about Art.

Well, someone will read it, I'm sure. I saw a great cartoon about blogs. Two dogs talking: one says to the other, "I used to have a blog, now I've just gone back to incessant, pointless barking."

Testy, testy. The sign said 'all welcome,' if your afraid of light being brought upon your whining perhaps you should hold your convention in secret. Greg will have plenty to say about the convention, for those that can't wait here is the spoiler, a dirty hippy named pollina is going to run for Governor, vt's salvation lies in growing hemp, and Art is a tool of the Chamber of Commerce.
Any questions?

Things I don't understand. According to our friendly prog this blog is akin to a dog's incessant barking. Yet Art Woolf, undeniably the star blogger, is apparently the arch nemesis of the progs. I have to ask if Art is just howling at the moon(bats) why the animosity?

Gee, I haven't heard the word "hippy" in decades. I'm not sure where Vermont's salvation lies, but we know it wasn't with Jim Douglas.

Douglas, who said anything about Douglas? I haven't seen any Douglas love around here. Now you know salvation is not with Douglas, but you don't know where it lies for VT. Does that mean you are not supporting Pollina?

OK, folks, let's not lower ourselves to the name-calling from the Free Press comments section. You could have called Mr. Pollina a hippie without the 'dirty' adjective, and that would have been OK. Hmm...Row..might you be the rowvee at the Free Press comments section? Anyway, this is a great blog - let's not mess it up. I've left Vermont, but I'm still interested in its survival, for the benfit of my friends still there.

My motto is: 'If you can't post something funny or insulting, don't post anything at all'

Quotes

  • Only a crisis—actual or perceived— produces real change. When that crisis occurs, the actions that are taken depend on the ideas that are lying around. That, I believe, is our basic function: to develop alternatives to existing policies, to keep them alive and available until the politically impossible becomes politically inevitable .... (Milton Friedman)
