Let's see if we get this straight. Mr. Shumlin is pushing the Douglas plan in the Senate even though he is opposed to it and it stands no chance of making it into a final bill for the Governor's signature. He's doing it because he wants to get the Governor "into in the conversation." The politics are no doubt supple beyond the ability of mere mortals to appreciate. Most Vermonters would probably just as soon skip the grandstanding and see some money.
Fat chance.
Montpelier must acknowledge some facts if it hopes to accomplish anything in the way of reforming the present system for funding education and, hence, reduce the burden on taxpayers. "Local control" and Act 60/68 are incompatible. You cannot square a circle.
Meanwhile, Mr. Shumlin's "conversation" is a waste of time.
